Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,714 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,714 m of the 2,343 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 593 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 20 at LFPO Paris-Orly Airport, covering 1 nm in 9 minutes.
During the departure roll on runway 20, the aircraft used a takeoff distance of 1,472 m, representing 62 % of the runway, and lifted off at 152 kt; ambient temperature was 24 °C with wind 19 kt from 260°, a crosswind component of 17 kt and a headwind component of 9 kt.
Climb began overhead Paray-Vieille-Poste, rising from 1,253 ft asl to 33,009 ft asl, an increase of 31,756 ft achieved in 18 minutes while covering 114 nm.
The first cruise segment started 1 mile south of Grivesnes, lasted 48 minutes and spanned 338 nm at level flight.
Descent commenced 4 miles south-west of Kirkby Stephen, descending from 33,009 ft asl to 6,443 ft asl, a loss of 26,566 ft in 17 minutes over 96 nm.
A brief cruise followed 1 mile north-west of Pathhead, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nm.
The second descent started overhead Cockenzie, dropping from 5,950 ft asl to 1,428 ft asl, a decrease of 4,522 ft in 7 minutes while traveling 18 nm.
Final approach to runway 24 at EGPH Edinburgh Airport was executed from the north-east, on a heading of 239.0°, at 4 nm and 1,306 ft agl.
Landing on runway 24 occurred with a runway length of 2,343 m; the threshold speed was 148 kt, touchdown was 176 m beyond the touchdown zone at 137 kt, the vertical speed was minus 181 fpm, and the touchdown point was offset 4.3 m from the centreline. Local conditions were 15 °C, wind 15 kt from 260°, crosswind 6 kt and headwind 14 kt. Total landing distance measured 1,632 m, representing 70 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area, covering 1 nm in 7 minutes.
In total, the flight covered 579 nm, required 108 minutes, and consumed 4,284 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo entered the final approach to runway 24 at EGPH Edinburgh Airport from the north-east on a heading of 239.0° at 4 nm and 1,306 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Local weather was 15 °C with wind 15 kt from 260°, giving a 6 kt crosswind component and a 14 kt headwind component.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a speed of 148 kt, noted as well above target, and the threshold height was good. The flare proceeded to a touchdown point 176 m beyond the touchdown zone.
Touchdown occurred at a speed of 137 kt, described as a little fast, with a vertical rate of -181 fpm that was good. The touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.3 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 1,632 m, representing 70 % of the 2,343 m runway, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
Reduce the approach speed to meet the target value and aim to touch down within the designated touchdown zone to keep the touchdown point and speed within optimal limits; the 94.7 % score indicates the overall performance was strong, with only minor refinements needed.
