Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,116 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,116 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 167 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was conducted in a Cessna 152 aircraft, departing from Maasin Airport in the Philippines. The takeoff roll began on runway 34, and the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 68 knots. The takeoff distance covered 433 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 56 degrees.
The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The aircraft's climb performance was impressive, with an increase in altitude from 808 feet above sea level to 1,306 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The enroute level cruise phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached the destination, it began its final descent, heading towards runway 34 from the south. The aircraft was at an altitude of 177 feet above ground level and 1 nautical mile away from the runway threshold. The landing was executed smoothly, with a touchdown speed of 40 knots and a touchdown distance of 166 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway length. The touchdown rate was an impressive -86 feet per minute, indicating a gentle and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also spotless. The total landing distance was 292 meters, and the aircraft used a total of 2 kilograms of fuel for the entire flight, which covered a distance of 5 nautical miles and lasted for 14 minutes. Overall, the flight was executed with precision and control, demonstrating the capabilities of the Cessna 152 aircraft in various weather conditions.
The Cessna 152 aircraft successfully landed at RPSM Maasin Airport, achieving a remarkable score of 99.3%. The final approach to runway 34 was conducted from the south, with the aircraft heading 345.0° at 1 nautical mile and 177 feet above ground level (agl). This precise approach allowed the pilot to maintain control and execute a smooth landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated excellent performance, with a threshold speed of 58 knots, which is well within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 166 meters was also satisfactory, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control to bring the aircraft to a stop within a reasonable distance. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 40 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -86 feet per minute (fpm) was exceptional, showcasing the pilot's skill in managing the aircraft's descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 56°. The crosswind component was minimal at 5 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions allowed the pilot to maintain a stable approach and execute a precise landing.
The total landing distance of 292 meters was impressive, accounting for only 26% of the runway length. This indicates that the pilot had excellent control over the aircraft's descent and was able to bring it to a stop quickly and safely. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the landing roll.
Overall, the Cessna 152 aircraft's landing at RPSM Maasin Airport was a testament to the pilot's skill and expertise. The aircraft's performance was exceptional, and the landing was executed with precision and control, resulting in a score of 99.3%.
