Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,171 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 522 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Quebec Jean Lesage International Airport (CYQB), the Airbus A320 began its journey on runway 06, taking off with a takeoff distance of 1,665 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 149 knots, with a gentle tailwind of 3 knots. As it departed the airport, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 23°C and a light wind of 3 knots from 225°.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it began its ascent from 1,091 feet above sea level, reaching a maximum altitude of 38,008 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 135 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a 25-minute level cruise, during which the aircraft covered an additional 162 nautical miles. The descent phase commenced 16 miles southeast of Bancroft, Ontario, where the aircraft descended from 38,039 feet to 1,986 feet in 24 minutes, covering 113 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 23 at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) was initiated from the northeast, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 226.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,430 feet above ground level.
The Airbus A320 landed on runway 23, with a total landing distance of 1,374 meters, accounting for 43% of the runway. Although the touchdown speed was slightly fast at 130 knots, the touchdown rate was fair at -284 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 meters from the centerline. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles in 13 minutes. The total flight distance was 421 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 96 minutes and a fuel consumption of 3,362 kilograms.
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport, demonstrating a good threshold height and speed of 135 kt. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a heading of 226.0° from the north east at 4 nm and 1,430 ft above ground level. The touchdown point was located 165 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight overrun. The touchdown speed of 130 kt was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -284 fpm was fair.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. The total landing distance of 1,374 m was 43% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits.
The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 6 °C and wind of 26 kt at 249°, resulted in a crosswind of 10 kt and a headwind of 24 kt. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 91.0%. While there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and runway alignment, the pilot demonstrated good control and adherence to standard operating procedures.
