Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,678 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,678 m of the 2,914 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 558 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, Vueling's EC-MGZ, then departed from runway 25R at EBBR Brussels Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,721 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 89 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead the town of Diegem in Flanders, Belgium. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,251 feet above sea level to 32,336 feet, an increase of 31,085 feet, in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 100 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting overhead the town of Nampcel in Hauts-de-France, France. This phase lasted for 52 minutes and covered a distance of 380 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north east of Saint-Andre-de-Roquelongue in Occitanie, France. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 32,609 feet to 5,938 feet, a decrease of 26,671 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 103 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting overhead the town of Montgat in Catalunya, Spain. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles south east of Mataro in Catalunya, Spain. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 5,242 feet to 2,280 feet, a decrease of 2,961 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 6 miles south of Canet de Mar in Catalunya, Spain. This phase lasted for 6 minutes and covered a distance of 22 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 24R at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, approaching from the north east at a heading of 246.0 degrees and at an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 24R was successful, with the aircraft touching down 145 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was within the target range. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -267 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 7.9 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 329 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,600 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.4 meters. The aircraft then taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 628 nautical miles, taking a total of 115 minutes and using 4,394 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, successfully landed on runway 24R at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, achieving a score of 87.8%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 246.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold speed of 136 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
However, the threshold height at 70 feet agl was above the target, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal approach path. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -267 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting a relatively smooth descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 145 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a moderate deviation from the ideal touchdown position. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal alignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 7 knots at 329°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, as the aircraft was able to maintain control and land safely.
The total landing distance of 1,600 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.4 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown positions. These deviations did not appear to significantly impact the safety of the landing, but they do highlight areas for improvement in the aircraft's approach and landing procedures.
