Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,730 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,730 m of the 2,606 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 579 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 8 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, then departed from runway 20C at Singapore Changi Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,916 meters, which is 48% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 163 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 130 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb shortly after departure, starting 1 mile southwest of Changi Air Base (East) in Singapore. The climb took place from an altitude of 1,066 feet above sea level to 16,569 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,503 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 27 miles south of Pulau Sudong Military Airstrip in Singapore, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 32 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 16,565 feet above sea level to 37,358 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,793 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles. The climb took place 23 miles southwest of Raja Haji Abdullah in Indonesia.
The enroute level cruise continued for 58 minutes, covering a distance of 499 nautical miles, starting 16 miles west of Pekanbaru in Indonesia. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 37,809 feet above sea level to 39,128 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,319 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 15 nautical miles. The climb took place at a specific location with latitude 3.144147 and longitude 93.2440026.
The enroute level cruise continued for another 75 minutes, covering a distance of 1,021 nautical miles, starting at latitude 3.12332 and longitude 92.9729757. The aircraft then began its descent, starting at latitude 3.9817241 and longitude 75.934891. The descent took place from 39,221 feet above sea level to 1,276 feet above sea level, a decrease of 37,945 feet in 28 minutes, covering a distance of 144 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at Malé International Airport took place from the south, heading 360 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,255 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 36, which has a length of 2,606 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 143 knots. The touchdown point was 165 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was also good at -169 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 320 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The total landing distance was 1,650 meters, which is 63% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took approximately 10 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,877 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 210 minutes. The aircraft
The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft successfully landed at VRMM Malé International Airport, showcasing a high level of precision and control. The final approach to runway 36 was initiated from the south, with the aircraft heading 360.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,255 feet above ground level (agl). This approach was executed with a high degree of accuracy, as evident from the subsequent landing performance.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 143 knots was also within the acceptable range, signifying that the aircraft was properly configured for landing. The touchdown point was located 165 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which, although not ideal, still falls within the acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 133 knots was also good, and the touchdown rate of -169 feet per minute (fpm) was within the desired range, indicating a controlled and gentle touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a wind speed of 9 knots at 320°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing performance, as the aircraft maintained a very good runway touchdown alignment.
The total landing distance of 1,650 meters was 63% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot executed a well-planned and controlled approach, taking into account the aircraft's performance characteristics and the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing performance of the Boeing 777-200ER at VRMM Malé International Airport was impressive, with a high score of 97.1%. This achievement is a testament to the pilot's skill and experience, as well as the aircraft's capabilities and performance characteristics.
