MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,024 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 526 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LUKK Chişinău International Airport. This process took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 26, and the takeoff distance was 896 meters, which is 25% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 151 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 4°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 300°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead LUKK Chişinău International Airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,412 feet above sea level to 35,997 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered a distance of 111 nautical miles, took 18 minutes and resulted in an increase of 34,585 feet in altitude.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles east of Chiscani, Romania. This phase lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 126 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 22 miles southeast of Balgarevo, Bulgaria. This descent took 27 minutes and covered a distance of 123 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,090 feet above sea level to 5,396 feet above sea level.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles north of Esenyurt, Turkey. This phase lasted for 6 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles northwest of LTBA İstanbul Atatürk Airport. This descent took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 4,888 feet above sea level to 1,599 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 36 at LTFM İstanbul Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 359.0° at an altitude of 1,369 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 36, which has a length of 3,024 meters. The threshold height at 73 feet above ground level was well above the target, and the threshold speed was also well above the target at 140 knots.
The touchdown point was 102 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -456 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 39°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,075 meters, which is 36% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 386 nautical miles, and the flight took 84 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 3,169 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LTFM İstanbul Airport, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach to runway 36 was initiated from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,369 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 102 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 133 knots was slightly above the target speed, which could have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -456 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was also significantly misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centerline, which could have made the landing more challenging for the pilots. The threshold height at 73 feet agl was well above the target, and the threshold speed was also well above the target at 140 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 8°C and wind speeds of 10 knots at 39°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. Despite these favorable conditions, the pilots still struggled to maintain a smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,075 meters was 36% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 18.1 meters from the centerline, which could have made the landing more difficult to control. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas for improvement, including the touchdown speed, touchdown rate, and runway alignment.
