Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,230 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,230 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 164 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 25 at EDX1 Hoherodskopf, where the aircraft, an XCub, successfully took off after covering a distance of 130 meters, which accounted for 16% of the runway. The liftoff speed was recorded at 53 knots. At the time of takeoff, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 342 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 16 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
Following the initial takeoff, the aircraft entered a brief enroute level cruise, lasting less than a minute and covering a distance of less than a nautical mile, as it flew 1 mile southeast of Schotten, Hessen, Germany. The aircraft then began its descent from an altitude of 2,414 feet above sea level to 1,876 feet above sea level, a decrease of 538 feet, over a distance of 3 nautical miles, within a period of 2 minutes.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, this time lasting 3 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles, as it flew 3 miles southwest of Schotten. Subsequently, the aircraft initiated an enroute climb from an altitude of 1,905 feet above sea level to 2,479 feet above sea level, an increase of 574 feet, over a distance of 3 nautical miles, within a period of 2 minutes, as it flew overhead Ranstadt, Hessen, Germany.
The aircraft then began its descent from an altitude of 2,567 feet above sea level to 1,062 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,505 feet, over a distance of 2 nautical miles, within a period of 2 minutes, as it flew 2 miles north of Altenstadt, Hessen, Germany. The aircraft then initiated its final approach to runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, flying from the south at a heading of 4.0 degrees and at an altitude of 626 feet above ground level, 1 nautical mile from the runway.
The aircraft landed successfully on runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, which had a length of 1,230 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 56 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 162 meters, and the touchdown speed was recorded at 46 knots, which was also satisfactory. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -267 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.2 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 27 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 404 meters, which accounted for 33% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 18 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 10 minutes, during which the aircraft used 4 kilograms of fuel.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, achieving a score of 92.4%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 4.0° at 1 nautical mile and 626 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 36, which has a length of 1,230 meters.
The pilot demonstrated good control during the landing, achieving a threshold speed of 56 knots. The touchdown distance was also satisfactory, measuring 162 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 46 knots was slightly lower than expected, but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -267 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating a slightly steeper descent than ideal.
One notable aspect of the landing was the misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was off-center by 8.2 meters. This may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a gentle headwind of 6 knots at 27°.
The total landing distance of 404 meters was 33% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the XCub aircraft demonstrated good performance during the landing, with the pilot achieving a high score of 92.4%. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown rate and runway alignment, which may be areas for improvement in future landings.
