MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,892 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,249 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KFOE Topeka Regional Airport. This process took approximately 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 13, with a takeoff distance of 2,332 feet, which accounted for 18% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 65°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead KFOE Topeka Regional Airport and continued to an altitude of 22,492 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,417 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 27 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 6 miles south east of Alma, Kansas. This phase lasted for 53 minutes and covered a distance of 361 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 10 miles south east of CD15 Schantz Airstrip Simla, Colorado. The descent from 22,209 feet to 9,399 feet above sea level, a decrease of 12,810 feet, took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 33 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 6 miles south west of CO90 Usaf Academy Bullseye Aux Airstrip Ellicott, Colorado. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 8 miles east of Fountain, Colorado. The descent from 9,215 feet to 7,437 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,778 feet, took 3 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31 at KCOS City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport was made from the south east, with a heading of 315.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 31 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,253 feet, which was good. However, the touchdown speed of 100 knots was fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -324 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 24 feet from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 62°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 2,624 feet, which accounted for 33% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 26 feet from the centreline.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 439 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 78 minutes. The aircraft used 2,907 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed at the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (KCOS) on runway 31. The aircraft scored a high 95.3% on its landing, indicating a well-executed approach and touchdown. The final approach was made from the southeast, heading 315.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 109 knots, which was significantly above the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 1,253 feet was within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 100 knots was slightly faster than desired, but the firm touchdown rate of -324 feet per minute (fpm) suggests that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 24 feet, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 62°F and a light wind of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each.
The total landing distance of 2,624 feet was 33% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 26 feet, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's rollout path.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft's high score suggests that the pilots executed the approach and touchdown with precision and control. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and runway alignment.
