Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: wings 15° of bank, against a 10° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 456 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F taxied to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport and commenced the departure roll. The aircraft accelerated through a takeoff distance of 1,540 m, representing 47 % of the runway, and lifted off at 143 kt. Ambient conditions were 34 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, including a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
During the en-route climb, the flight rose from 1,025 ft asl to 1,535 ft asl, an altitude gain of 511 ft achieved in 1 minute while covering 4 nm over the Auckland area.
Level cruise began 3 mi west of Takanini and was maintained for 4 minutes, during which the aircraft traversed 12 nm at a constant altitude.
The final approach to runway 05R was executed with a descent from 1,281 ft agl to 54 ft agl in 97 seconds, and the aircraft met the stabilisation gate criteria. Weather remained unchanged at 34 °C, wind 3 kt from 1°, with the same cross-wind and head-wind components.
Landing was completed on runway 05R, whose length is 3,284 m. The threshold speed was slightly below the target at 134 kt. Touchdown occurred 454 m down the runway at 124 kt, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 307 fpm, and the wheel track was offset by 3.5 m from the centreline.
In total, the flight covered 21 nm, required 7 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 1,370 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777F commenced its final approach to runway 05R at Auckland International Airport with an unstable assessment at the 1,000 ft gate. Descent was recorded from 1,281 ft agl to 54 ft agl over 97 seconds, and the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 134 kt. The aircraft entered the flare with a touchdown distance of 454 m and a touchdown speed of 124 kt, while the touchdown rate was firm at minus 307 fpm. Runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.5 m from the centreline.
Touchdown occurred with the noted distance, speed and rate, and the minor lateral offset of 3.5 m was recorded. Local weather was 34 °C with a 3 kt crosswind and a 1 kt headwind.
Achieving a fully stabilised approach by the 1,000 ft gate would eliminate the instability noted, and tightening centreline tracking to remove the 3.5 m offset will further improve the already strong 93.3 % score.
