MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Departure
Ease back pressure in smoothly as you approach 87 kt, holding a steady rotation rate rather than snatching the controls.
What happened: On the takeoff roll the aircraft bounced before becoming fully airborne.
Watch for: Attitude indicator: a smooth, continuous pitch-up through liftoff with no secondary bounce.
See Departure Roll
Arrival
Reduce power earlier on final so threshold speed settles at 66 kt instead of carrying it into the flare.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 103 kt, well above the 66 kt target speed, and that excess speed was still showing at touchdown. Crossing the threshold fast usually carries straight through to a fast touchdown.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against 66 kt on short final.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach that landed joined below the 300 ft gate, after a go-around. The gate assessed on the earlier approach is not shown - it was not the landing's.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,006 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,059 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a TBM 930, then departed from runway 27 at KTEX Telluride Regional Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,756 feet, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 99 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Telluride Regional Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 77°F temperature and a 5-knot wind at 10°. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 9,493 feet above sea level to 26,342 feet, a total increase of 16,849 feet in 12 minutes and covering 32 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 3 miles northeast of Montrose, Colorado, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 4 miles southwest of Crawford, Colorado, and descended from 26,346 feet to 13,690 feet, a decrease of 12,657 feet in 7 minutes and covering 35 nautical miles.
The flight continued with a series of enroute climbs and descents, with the aircraft climbing from 13,688 feet to 14,731 feet in 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles, and then descending from 14,718 feet to 10,014 feet in 3 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft also climbed from 10,013 feet to 15,172 feet in 5 minutes and covering 10 nautical miles, and then descended from 15,208 feet to 14,163 feet in 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 33 at KASE Aspen-Pitkin County Airport was from the south, with the aircraft heading 338.0° at 1 nautical mile and 1,317 feet above ground level. However, a go-around was initiated at 874 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 33, with a touchdown distance of 993 feet and a touchdown speed of 95 knots. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -960 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 22 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 73°F temperature and a 4-knot wind at 170°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 4 knots. The total landing distance was 2,190 feet, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 135 nautical miles, and the flight used 280 pounds of fuel.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at KASE Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (Sardy Field) on runway 33, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 338.0° at 1 nm and 1,317 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown height was significantly above the target at 94 ft agl, indicating a slightly higher-than-desired approach.
The touchdown speed of 95 kt was also excessively fast, which could have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate of -960 fpm. A heavier touchdown rate can put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and may require more braking distance to come to a stop. The touchdown distance of 993 ft was good, but the overall landing distance of 2,190 ft was 31% of the runway length, which may be considered a bit long for a typical landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 22 ft from the centreline, which may require some adjustments to the aircraft's alignment during the approach. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 73°F and a wind speed of 4 kt at 170°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 kt, and the tailwind was 4 kt, which may have contributed to the slightly higher-than-desired approach and touchdown speed.
Despite the issues with the landing, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was not perfect, but it was still a safe and controlled touchdown.
