Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: no landing flap set, sink rate above what the glideslope needed and off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,459 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 501 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 21 at SEGU José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport. The aircraft, a BE58, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 101 kt, covering a distance of 538 m, which was 22% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were quite cold, with a temperature of -16 °C.
After taking off, the aircraft entered a level cruise, flying overhead Guayaquil, a city located in the Provincia del Guayas, Ecuador. This initial cruise lasted for just 1 minute and covered a distance of 3 nm. The aircraft then began a climb, ascending from 1,200 ft above sea level to 2,898 ft, an increase of 1,698 ft, over a distance of 3 nm and in a time of 2 minutes. This climb started 2 miles south of Guayaquil.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, this time starting 2 miles south of Eloy Alfaro, another city in the Provincia del Guayas, Ecuador. This cruise lasted for 18 minutes and covered a distance of 14 nm. Following this, the aircraft began a descent, dropping from 2,988 ft above sea level to 705 ft, a decrease of 2,284 ft, over a distance of 3 nm and in a time of 3 minutes. This descent started 2 miles west of Guayaquil.
The final approach to runway 03 at SEGU José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 37.0° at 1 nm and 692 ft above ground level. The landing on runway 03 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 95 kt and a distance of 492 m. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast, and the threshold height was excessively over target, while the threshold speed was too high at 118 kt.
The total landing distance was 797 m, which was 32% of the runway length. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.2 m. After landing, the aircraft's rollout alignment was also misaligned from the centreline by 15.4 m. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were still quite cold, with a temperature of -16 °C.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 27 nm and lasted for 23 minutes, using 15 kg of fuel.
The aircraft in question, a BE58, has completed a landing at SEGU José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, with a final approach from the southwest. The aircraft's heading during the final approach was 37.0°, and it was at an altitude of 692 feet above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 03, which has a length of 2,459 meters. However, the threshold height at 170 feet agl was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 118 knots, suggesting that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown.
Despite these issues, the touchdown distance was good at 492 meters, and the touchdown speed of 95 knots, although a little fast, was not excessively so. The touchdown rate of -157 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down quickly and safely after touchdown.
However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's path during the final approach. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were cold, with a temperature of -16°C.
The total landing distance was 797 meters, which is 32% of the runway length. This is a relatively short distance, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and safely after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 15.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's path during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a safe stop, and the touchdown distance and rate were good. However, there were some issues with the threshold height and speed, as well as the runway touchdown position and rollout alignment.
