Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 13,434 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,829 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 31 at KFOE Topeka Regional Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,590 feet, which accounted for 12% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 148 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead KFOE Topeka Regional Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,066 feet above sea level to 20,013 feet above sea level, an increase of 17,947 feet, in just 7 minutes and covering a distance of 27 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began overhead Melvern, Kansas, and lasted for 52 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 340 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile south of 33XA Poetry Landing in Royse City, Texas, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 19,990 feet above sea level to 1,837 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,153 feet, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 37 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 35C at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0° at an altitude of 1,257 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 35C was characterized by a touchdown point that was 1,444 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 102 knots, which was faster than the target speed. The touchdown rate was good at -152 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 29 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°.
The total landing distance was 4,130 feet, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 36 feet from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took just 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 412 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 83 minutes, during which the aircraft used 0 pounds of fuel.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft successfully landed on runway 35C at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading directly towards the runway, at an altitude of 1,257 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft's approach was slightly off-target, as the threshold height was well above the desired height of 74 feet agl. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 111 knots, which could have posed a challenge for the pilots to maintain control during the landing. The touchdown point was 1,444 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the pilots may have been slightly too aggressive with their descent.
The touchdown speed of 102 knots was also faster than desired, which could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear. However, the touchdown rate of -152 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the pilots were able to control the aircraft's descent effectively. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 29 feet from the centreline, which could have made the landing more challenging.
The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 1 knot from the west. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind. Despite the favorable weather conditions, the pilots still struggled to maintain a precise approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 4,130 feet was 31% of the runway length, which is within a reasonable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 36 feet from the centreline, which could have made the post-landing phase more challenging for the pilots. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas for improvement that the pilots could focus on to refine their skills and achieve a more precise and controlled landing.
