Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,687 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,687 m of the 3,996 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 600 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 10 at SLLP El Alto International Airport. The Airbus A319 took off after covering 44% of the 1,770-meter runway, reaching a liftoff speed of 142 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 17 knots at a direction of 59 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 14 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 1 mile southwest of La Paz, Bolivia, at an altitude of 14,318 feet above sea level. The climb continued for 3 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended by 636 feet to an altitude of 13,683 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The climb was a smooth and efficient process, allowing the aircraft to reach its desired altitude quickly.
The final approach to runway 10 at SLLP El Alto International Airport was initiated from the west, with the aircraft heading at 79.0 degrees at an altitude of 471 feet above ground level and a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was executed successfully, with the aircraft touching down 208 meters beyond the touchdown zone. Although the touchdown speed was slightly above the target at 113 knots, the touchdown rate was perfect at 84 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.6 meters, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,630 meters, which accounted for 41% of the 3,996-meter runway. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 10 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 6 minutes. The aircraft used 317 kilograms of fuel during the flight, indicating an efficient use of resources. Overall, the flight was executed smoothly and safely, with the aircraft performing well in the challenging weather conditions.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at SLLP El Alto International Airport, achieving a score of 96.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 79.0° at 2 nautical miles and 471 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 10, which has a length of 3,996 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 120 knots. This may indicate a slight deviation from the optimal approach speed, but it did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing. The touchdown point was 208 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which suggests that the aircraft may have touched down slightly too far down the runway.
The touchdown speed of 113 knots was a little fast, which may have contributed to the slightly longer landing distance. However, the touchdown rate of 84 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were reported as follows: a temperature of 8°C, wind at 11 knots at 60°, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed and the deviation from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,630 meters, which is 41% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating a good approach and landing performance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with a high score of 96.6%. While there were some minor deviations from the optimal approach and landing parameters, the aircraft performed well in the challenging weather conditions.
