Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 7,013 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 7,013 ft of the 13,765 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,697 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport, the Boeing 737-900 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. Upon reaching runway 15L, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, utilizing 4,881 feet of the 12,760-foot runway, which represented 41% of its length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 158 knots, overcoming a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile south of KIAH and continued for 21 minutes, covering a distance of 118 nautical miles. The aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 1,263 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 35,996 feet, a vertical gain of 34,732 feet. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 64 minutes and covered a distance of 476 nautical miles. The descent phase began 11 miles south of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and lasted 18 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 36,004 feet to 5,957 feet, a vertical loss of 30,047 feet. The final approach to runway 26 at KABQ Albuquerque International Sunport was initiated from the east, with the aircraft aligning with the runway at 2 nautical miles and 627 feet above ground level.
The Boeing 737-900 landed on runway 26, utilizing 53% of the 12,760-foot runway, with a total landing distance of 6,778 feet. The touchdown point was 362 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was slightly fast at 142 knots. However, the touchdown rate was excellent at -60 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 705 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 11,214 pounds of fuel during the 117-minute flight.
The Boeing 737-900 touched down on runway 26 at KABQ Albuquerque International Sunport with a score of 99.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 269.0° at 2 nm and 627 ft above ground level. The final approach was characterized by good quality, with a smooth descent and a stable airspeed. The threshold height was well-managed, and the threshold speed was achieved at 142 kt, within the acceptable range.
As the aircraft touched down 362 ft beyond the touchdown zone, the touchdown speed of 142 kt was slightly above the ideal, but the touchdown rate of -60 fpm was excellent, indicating a controlled and stable touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °F and a wind of 6 kt at 50°, contributed to a relatively calm landing environment. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 4 kt and 5 kt, respectively.
The total landing distance of 6,778 ft was 53% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was characterized by good approach quality, a stable touchdown, and a controlled rollout, resulting in a high score of 99.3%.
