Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,539 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 588 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an RJ85, then departed from runway 26 at Lille Airport (LFQQ) and took off with a takeoff distance of 1,380 meters, which was 54% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 138 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots at 169 degrees. The crosswind was 5 knots, and there was no headwind. The enroute climb started overhead Templemars, a town in the Hauts-de-France region of France, and continued to an altitude of 30,230 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,048 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
After reaching the desired altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon, a town in the Ile-de-France region of France. This phase lasted for 56 minutes and covered a distance of 372 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 11 miles south of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, a town in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of France. The descent from 30,164 feet to 5,259 feet above sea level, a decrease of 24,904 feet, took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 99 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile west of Oletta, a town in the Corse region of France. This phase lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 23 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 3 miles east of San-Giuliano, a town in the Corse region of France. The descent from 4,857 feet to 1,331 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,526 feet, took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 34 at Bastia-Poretta Airport (LFKB) was made from the south, with a heading of 343.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,302 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 34 was successful, with a touchdown point 167 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 102 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -148 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots at 10 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and there was a headwind of 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,140 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 638 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 124 minutes. The aircraft used 4,368 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, an RJ85, successfully landed at LFKB Bastia-Poretta Airport with a high score of 95.1%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 343.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,302 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft then landed on runway 34, which has a length of 2,539 meters.
The landing was deemed satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 118 knots. The touchdown point was located 167 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 102 knots was also considered good, and the touchdown rate of -148 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 35°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 10°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 5 knots, which did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,140 meters, which is 45% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop in a relatively short period of time. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered to be a success, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and stability throughout the approach and landing phases.
