Improve the pattern downwind leg
Spacing cues are relative to your eyepoint, so two simmers with different FOV settings following the same wingtip cue fly patterns half a mile different in width, and a wide FOV compresses depth so the runway on base looks further away than it is, biasing you towards a late turn. Pick a camera position and FOV, save it, and never change it, because every judgement you calibrate is calibrated to that picture.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,353 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 389 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at Glasgow International Airport, with the DA42-VI aircraft taking off after a distance of 219 meters, which accounted for 9% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 84 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand pattern, it followed a distance of 1 nautical mile in 43 seconds. The subsequent left-hand pattern crosswind maneuver was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 15 seconds. The aircraft then proceeded to the pattern downwind turn, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway, with an angle of 30.2 degrees to the runway centerline.
The downwind leg of the pattern was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 13 seconds. The final approach to runway 05 was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 48.0 degrees at an altitude of 185 meters above ground level and a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway. The landing on runway 05 was successful, with a threshold speed of 85 knots and a touchdown distance of 389 meters, which accounted for 29% of the runway. The touchdown speed was 71 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -0.6 meters per second.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 676 meters, and the total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, which was completed in 6 minutes. The flight used 9 kilograms of fuel.
The DA42-VI aircraft successfully landed at EGPF Glasgow International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.6%. The final approach was conducted from the south-west, heading 48.0° at an altitude of 185.0 meters above ground level (agl) and 2 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, with a good threshold height and speed of 85 knots upon reaching the runway.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown speed of 71 knots and a smooth touchdown rate of -0.6 meters per second. The touchdown distance of 389 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, there was a slight deviation from the centerline, with the runway touchdown position being 3.4 meters off-center.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 260°. This resulted in a minimal crosswind component of 1 knot and a tailwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance of 676 meters was 29% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was particularly impressive, with the aircraft maintaining a very good alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed smoothly and efficiently, with the DA42-VI aircraft demonstrating its capabilities in a variety of conditions.
