Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,594 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 429 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight on the Boeing 737-800 from ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland to ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen was relatively smooth. The taxiing from the parking to the runway took 16 minutes and covered 3 nm. The departure roll from runway 17 at Bergen Airport was successful, with a takeoff distance of 1,019 m and a liftoff speed of 159 knots. The local weather at departure indicated a temperature of 12°C, with a wind of 23 knots at 180°, resulting in a slight crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 23 knots.
During the enroute climb, the aircraft ascended from 1,198 ft asl to 28,144 ft asl, covering 68 nm in 15 minutes. The enroute level cruise lasted 2 minutes, covering 16 nm, and the enroute descent from 27,891 ft asl to 1,967 ft asl took 22 minutes over 91 nm. The final approach to runway 19R at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen from the north was successful, with a good touchdown distance of 430 m, a touchdown speed of 126 knots, and a firm touchdown rate of -336 ft/m. The local weather at the destination showed a temperature of 8°C, with a wind of 21 knots at 180°, resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 21 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,283 m, with a slightly misaligned runway rollout of 11.3 m from the centerline. Taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 11 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. Overall, the total flight distance was 183 nm, taking 61 minutes and using 2,471 kg of fuel. The flight was completed successfully, with minor deviations such as the misaligned runway rollout but overall performed within acceptable parameters.
Congratulations on achieving a remarkable aircraft landing score of 94.1%! Let's break down your performance across the different phases of the landing process to understand what went right.
During the Approach Phase, your glideslope alignment was excellent, indicating precise control over the descent of the aircraft. The threshold speed of 141 knots was within a safe range, ensuring a smooth transition to the Landing Phase.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, your threshold height was good, suggesting that you maintained the proper altitude as you prepared for touchdown. Additionally, your landing flare was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent towards the runway.
In the Touchdown Phase, despite a firm touchdown rate of -336 ft/m, your touchdown speed of 126 knots was optimal, providing a stable landing. The touchdown distance of 430 meters was good, indicating that you landed within a safe distance from the threshold. Furthermore, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating precision in your approach to the landing.
Overall, your performance during each phase of the landing process was commendable, resulting in an impressive landing score. Keep up the excellent work and continue to fine-tune your skills to further enhance your future landings. Well done!
