MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,131 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 418 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, taking approximately 5 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an MD-82, then departed from runway 36R, utilizing 70% of the runway's length and achieving liftoff at a speed of 165 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 19°C temperature and a 4-knot headwind. The climb started 1 mile north of the airport and reached an altitude of 33,778 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,942 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 122 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 5 miles southeast of Creedmoor, North Carolina, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering 132 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 3 miles southwest of Tappahannock-Essex County Airport in Virginia, descending from 33,785 feet to 8,511 feet in 23 minutes, covering 133 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time overhead Penns Grove, New Jersey, lasting for 17 minutes and covering 75 nautical miles. The descent from this cruise phase started overhead Huguenot, New York, and the aircraft descended from 8,091 feet to 3,128 feet in just 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles.
The final level cruise phase began 1 mile southwest of Bayonne, New Jersey, and lasted for 6 minutes, covering 13 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 13 at LaGuardia Airport, heading northwest at 4 nautical miles and 1,295 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 13 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 419 meters and a touchdown speed of 135 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was very hard at -569 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 19°C temperature and a 2-knot crosswind.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 489 nautical miles, taking 93 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,092 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The MD-82 aircraft successfully landed at KLGA LaGuardia Airport, achieving a score of 95.2%. The final approach was conducted from the northwest, heading 122.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,295 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft then landed on runway 13, which has a length of 2,131 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, coming in at 143 knots. This may have been due to the aircraft's approach configuration or the pilot's decision to prioritize a safe landing over a precise speed.
The touchdown distance was within acceptable limits, measuring 419 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 135 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -569 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 218°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and no headwind, making the landing conditions relatively straightforward.
The total landing distance was 1,123 meters, which is 53% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the MD-82 aircraft performed well during the landing, with the exception of the slightly fast touchdown speed and hard touchdown rate. However, the good threshold height, runway touchdown alignment, and short landing distance all contributed to a successful landing.
