Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3.3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,833 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 344 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 12 at SBFN Fernando de Noronha Airport. The Airbus A320 took off with a takeoff distance of 831 meters, which is 45% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 160 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 17 knots at 133 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed, it started enroute climb 1 mile east of the airport, rising from 1,149 feet above sea level to 2,062 feet above sea level, an increase of 913 feet in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The climb was steep and efficient, showcasing the capabilities of the Airbus A320.
After reaching the desired altitude, the aircraft began its enroute descent 2 miles east of the airport. The descent from 2,079 feet above sea level to 745 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,333 feet in 3 minutes, covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The descent was smooth and controlled, allowing the aircraft to maintain a safe altitude.
The final approach to runway 12 at SBFN Fernando de Noronha Airport was initiated from the west, heading 90.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 554 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a threshold speed of 120 knots, which was good, and a touchdown distance of 343 meters, which was also good.
However, the touchdown speed of 114 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -389 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions during landing were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at 132 degrees.
The total landing distance was 1,184 meters, which is 65% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 8 minutes. The aircraft used 237 kilograms of fuel during the flight, indicating an efficient use of resources. Overall, the flight was executed smoothly and efficiently, showcasing the capabilities of the Airbus A320 and the skills of the pilot.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at SBFN Fernando de Noronha Airport, achieving a score of 95.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 90.0° at 1 nautical mile and 554 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed on runway 12, which has a length of 1,833 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 120 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance was also within acceptable limits at 343 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 114 knots was slightly higher than the desired speed, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate of -389 feet per minute (fpm). This could potentially have caused some stress on the aircraft's landing gear.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the final stages of landing. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and wind speeds of 13 knots at 132°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance was 1,184 meters, which is 65% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. However, the slightly fast touchdown speed and firm touchdown rate may require some attention to ensure that the aircraft's landing gear is not subjected to excessive stress.
