Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,581 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,581 m of the 3,203 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 785 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A319 taxied from the parking area to runway 07L at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 07L, the aircraft used 1,585 m of runway, representing 51 % of the available length, and lifted off at 153 kt. Ambient conditions were 32 °C with a wind of 7 kt from 110°, including a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 7 kt head-wind.
Climb commenced 1 mile east of Phoenix, with the airplane ascending from 2,159 ft asl to 32,888 ft asl, a gain of 30,729 ft achieved in 14 minutes while covering 86 nm.
Level cruise began 5 miles south-west of Yav'pe Ma'ta Airport (16AZ) and lasted 3 minutes, during which 27 nm were flown.
Descent started 9 miles west of Yolo Ranch Airport (33AZ), with the aircraft descending from 32,900 ft asl to 3,340 ft asl, a loss of 29,560 ft over 22 minutes and a distance of 124 nm.
The final approach to runway 26L at Harry Reid International Airport involved a descent from 1,256 ft agl to 26 ft agl in 95 seconds, and the flight scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 26L, which is 3,203 m long, the threshold height at 67 ft agl was above target while the threshold speed of 130 kt was satisfactory. Touchdown occurred 637 m beyond the touchdown zone at 120 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 172 fpm and perfect runway-touchdown alignment; local temperature was 30 °C.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,768 m, equivalent to 55 % of the runway, and runway-rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 7 minutes, traveling another 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 247 nm, took 52, and consumed 2,072 kg of fuel.
