Arrival
Add power on final to hold 69 kt across the threshold.
What happened: The aircraft crossed the threshold at 50 kt, 19 kt below VREF, and low energy like this usually carries through to a firm touchdown at 158 fpm.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: 69 kt at the threshold
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The approach before the go-around was abandoned. Its marks are shown, but only the approach that landed counts.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 60 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Cotswold Airport (EGBP), the Kodiak 100 aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 26. The aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 80 kt, achieving liftoff in a distance of 464 m, which represented 29% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt from 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind component.
Following a successful takeoff, the aircraft entered a left-hand traffic pattern, navigating the circuit in a timely manner. The left-hand pattern entry and crosswind turns were executed efficiently, with the aircraft completing these phases in less than 1 nm and 20 seconds, respectively. The pattern downwind turn was conducted at an angle of 78.2° to the runway, while the downwind leg was flown for 2 nm in 53 seconds. The base leg turn was completed in 1 nm, with the aircraft aligning itself for a final approach to runway 26. However, a go-around was initiated at 31 ft above ground level, and the aircraft subsequently re-established a final approach from the east, heading 259.0° at 0 nm and 103 ft agl.
The final approach and landing were executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on runway 26 at a speed of 47 kt and a distance of 57 m. The touchdown rate was -110 fpm, indicating a smooth deceleration. Although the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 m from the centreline, the landing was otherwise uneventful. The total flight distance was 13 nm, and the aircraft consumed 20 kg of fuel during the 9-minute flight.
The final approach to runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport from the east was executed with good quality, with the aircraft maintaining a steady heading of 259.0° at 0 nm and 103 ft above ground level. The approach was conducted in a temperature of 15°C and a wind of 1 kt at 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind component and a slight headwind of 1 kt. The threshold height was good, allowing the pilot to maintain a safe margin above the runway surface.
As the aircraft touched down on the 1,618 m long runway, the threshold speed of 66 kt was well within the target range, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown distance of 57 m was also good, and the touchdown speed of 47 kt was within the desired parameters. The touchdown rate of -110 fpm was smooth, indicating a well-executed landing. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 m from the centreline, which may require attention in future approaches.
The rollout phase was executed with caution, as the threshold speed was well below the target, necessitating careful control to avoid stalling. Despite this, the overall landing was scored 91.3%, reflecting a good performance in terms of approach quality, touchdown characteristics, and rollout. The pilot's ability to maintain a smooth touchdown rate and control the aircraft during the rollout phase contributed to this high score.
