Track the centreline
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 8.7° off, against a 1° limit and wings 19° of bank, against a 10° limit.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 2.2° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 587 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F taxied to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport and commenced its departure roll, using 2,541 m of runway, which represented 77 % of the available length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 163 kt. Ambient conditions were 36 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 001°, a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
Climb began approximately one mile east of the airport, with the airplane accelerating from 810 ft asl to 1,543 ft asl, an altitude gain of 733 ft achieved in one minute while covering four nautical miles.
Cruise level was established three miles west of Takanini; the flight maintained this segment for three minutes and traversed eleven nautical miles before commencing descent.
During final approach to runway 05R, the aircraft descended from 1,289 ft agl to 85 ft agl in 88 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing was executed on runway 05R, whose total length is 3,284 m. The threshold speed was recorded at 148 kt, and touchdown occurred 174 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 135 kt. The aircraft’s vertical speed at touchdown was minus 87 fpm, and alignment was noted as perfect. Weather at the time was 20 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 224°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt tail-wind component. The total landing roll measured 1,029 m, representing 31 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
Runway rollout continued smoothly, maintaining the noted alignment, before the aircraft taxied to parking. The taxi-in required less than one minute and covered less than one nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered 20 nm, required six minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 1,291 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777F approached runway 05R at Auckland International Airport with an unstable final-approach assessment at the 1,000 ft gate, being off the centreline. The descent progressed from 1,289 ft agl to 85 ft agl in 88 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates; ambient conditions were 20 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 224°, a 1 kt crosswind component and a 3 kt tailwind.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good height and a good threshold speed of 148 kt.
Touchdown occurred 174 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a good touchdown speed of 135 kt, an excellent vertical rate of minus 87 fpm and perfect runway-touchdown alignment.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,029 m, representing 31 % of the 3,284 m runway, and runway-rollout alignment was very good.
Although the overall score was 92.5 %, refining centre-line tracking during the final approach and adjusting the flare to place the touchdown within the touchdown zone will further improve consistency.
