Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,193 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,193 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 110 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 26 at EHTE Teuge Airport, a small airport located in the Netherlands. The aircraft, a DA40-XLS, accelerated down the runway and lifted off the ground at a speed of 68 kt, covering a distance of 111 m, which was just 9% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle headwind of 2 kt blowing from a direction of 269 °.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 199 m above sea level to a higher altitude of 208 m, a gain of just 8.8 m over the course of 1 minute. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 1 nm, marking the beginning of its enroute climb. The climb was followed by a brief period of level cruise, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nm. This phase of the flight took place 1 mile southwest of Teuge, a town located in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands.
As the aircraft approached the end of its flight, it began its final approach to runway 26 at EHTE Teuge Airport. The approach was made from the east, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 265.0 ° at an altitude of 44.7 m above ground level and a distance of 0 nm from the runway threshold. The landing was characterized by a threshold speed that was slightly below the target speed of 62 kt, but the touchdown distance was good at 107 m, and the touchdown speed was also satisfactory at 55 kt. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with a rate of -0.3 m/s, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The total landing distance was 269 m, which was just 23% of the runway's length of 1,193 m. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well under control throughout the landing process. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as those at the time of takeoff, with a temperature of 15 °C and a headwind of 2 kt blowing from a direction of 269 °.
In conclusion, the flight was characterized by a smooth and controlled departure, climb, and landing. The aircraft performed well in terms of speed, distance, and altitude, and the landing was particularly impressive, with a smooth touchdown and a perfect runway rollout alignment. The total flight distance was 4 nm, and the flight used a total of 2 kg of fuel.
The DA40-XLS aircraft successfully landed at EHTE Teuge Airport, achieving a perfect score of 100.0%. The final approach to runway 26 was initiated from the east, with the aircraft heading 265.0° at an altitude of 44.7 meters above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was executed with precision, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 55 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed of 62 knots. The touchdown distance of 107 meters was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -0.3 meters per second was excellent, demonstrating a high degree of control and stability during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots from a direction of 269°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots. The runway length of 1,193 meters was more than sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance, which was a total of 269 meters, representing only 23% of the runway.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating a high degree of control and stability during the rollout phase of the landing. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, resulting in a perfect score of 100.0%.
