Know your rotation speed
See Departure Roll
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,546 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,546 m of the 3,148 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 640 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Brussels Airport, the Airbus A319 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft lined up on runway 25R, the local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 18 °C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 270 degrees. The takeoff roll commenced, and the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 162 knots, clearing the runway threshold at 1,507 meters, which was 49% of the runway's length.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it passed over Diegem, Flanders, Belgium, and continued to ascend to 30,933 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,717 feet in just 11 minutes, covering a distance of 103 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a brief level cruise phase, which lasted 2 minutes and covered 41 nautical miles, as the aircraft flew over Arlon-Sterpenich Ultralight Airfield in Wallonia, Belgium. The flight then entered a series of descent and level cruise phases, with the aircraft descending from 30,999 feet to 10,017 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,982 feet in 7 minutes, covering 89 nautical miles. The final descent phase began 1 mile north-east of Riehen, Switzerland, and the aircraft touched down on runway 14 at Zürich Airport, with a total landing distance of 1,467 meters, which was 47% of the runway's length.
The landing was executed with a touchdown speed of 129 knots, slightly above the target speed, and a firm touchdown rate of -320 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.3 meters from the centerline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 288 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 45 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 2,558 kilograms. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The final approach to runway 14 at LSZH Zürich Airport from the north west was executed with a heading of 137.0° at 4 nm and 1,482 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 140 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing conditions.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was 226 m beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 129 kt was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -320 fpm, which is within the acceptable range. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.3 m from the centreline, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal alignment. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind of 2 kt at 270°, contributed to a negligible crosswind and tailwind of 1 kt each.
The total landing distance of 1,467 m was 47% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating a high level of control and precision during the landing phase. Overall, the landing performance scored 94.5%, indicating a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
