MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,190 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 88 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a CRJ700ER, then departed from runway 18 at KMSN Dane County Regional Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin. The takeoff distance was 1,125 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 180 degrees. The crosswind was negligible, but there was a headwind of 5 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of KMSN Dane County Regional Truax Field and involved a significant increase in altitude from 1,897 feet above sea level to 39,308 feet above sea level, a rise of 37,411 feet in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 189 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south of 35MI Law Field in Vermontville, Michigan. This phase lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 263 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 39,369 feet above sea level to 3,053 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,316 feet in 15 minutes and covering a distance of 168 nautical miles. The descent started 12 miles north of Mannington, West Virginia.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Bryans Road, Maryland, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The final descent phase began 1 mile north of Bennsville, Maryland, and involved a decrease in altitude from 3,018 feet above sea level to 1,324 feet above sea level, a drop of 1,695 feet in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 01 at KDCA Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport from the south, heading 355.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,304 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 123 knots and a touchdown distance of 87 meters. The touchdown rate was firm at -361 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 317 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, and the headwind was 8 knots. The total landing distance was 735 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 641 nautical miles and took 50 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 1,880 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ700ER aircraft successfully landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) on runway 01, achieving a score of 98.0%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 355.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,304 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach and landing were characterized by good threshold height, threshold speed, and touchdown distance. The threshold speed was maintained at 125 knots, which is an optimal speed for landing, and the touchdown distance of 87 meters was also within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed of 123 knots was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The landing rate was firm at -361 feet per minute (fpm), which is a typical rate for a commercial aircraft. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20°C and wind speeds of 11 knots at 317°, resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance of 735 meters was 34% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to touch down safely on the runway. The high score of 98.0% reflects the pilot's skill and experience in navigating the aircraft through the approach and landing phases.
