Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,941 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,941 m of the 3,987 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 840 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 19 at Cape Town International Airport (FACT). The takeoff distance was 1,204 meters, which is 37% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30°C, with a wind speed of 20 knots at 186 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 19 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Cape Town International Airport and ascending from 1,184 feet above sea level to 38,130 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,946 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 152 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 18 miles east of Sutherland Airport (FASL) and lasting 51 minutes, covering a distance of 397 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 5 miles south-east of Wesselsbron Airport (FAXO), descending from 38,440 feet above sea level to 27,687 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,753 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 54 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 13 miles south of Vredefort, lasting 37 minutes, and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 12 miles south of Vredefort, descending from 27,639 feet above sea level to 6,854 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,785 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 77 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03L at O.R. Tambo International Airport (FAOR) was made from the south, heading 16.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,339 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 03L, which has a length of 3,987 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 144 knots. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 142 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -207 feet per minute.
The touchdown point was 425 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 80 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,861 meters, which is 47% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.0 meters from the centreline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 689 nautical miles, taking 112 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,971 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at O.R. Tambo International Airport's runway 03L, achieving a score of 91.3%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 16.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,339 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 144 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 425 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the recommended area. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was a bit faster than ideal, but the touchdown rate of -207 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 80°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,861 meters was 47% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.0 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have deviated slightly from the intended path during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good score despite some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown point and speed. The pilots' skills and the aircraft's performance were likely factors in the successful outcome of the landing.
