Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 2.3° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 296 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F departed runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport, using a take-off roll of 906 m which represented 28 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 157 kt. Ambient conditions were 34 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, giving a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced directly overhead the airport, with the aircraft accelerating from 882 ft asl to 1,522 ft asl, an increase of 639 ft in less than one minute while covering less than one nautical mile.
Cruise began approximately one mile east of NZAA and was maintained for three minutes, during which the flight covered ten nautical miles at level flight.
Descent was initiated six miles south-west of the airport, descending from 1,454 ft asl to 328 ft asl, a loss of 1,126 ft over two minutes while traversing five nautical miles.
During the final approach to runway 05R, the aircraft descended from 950 ft agl to 37 ft agl in 63 seconds and met the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing on runway 05R, whose length is 3,284 m, was executed with a threshold speed of 134 kt. Touchdown occurred 295 m down the runway at 130 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 188 fpm. The touchdown point was offset by 4.4 m from the centreline. Weather at the time was 35 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, providing the same cross-wind and head-wind components as earlier.
In total, the flight covered 20 nm, taking 6, and consumed 24,434 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport was conducted in a descent from 950 ft agl to 37 ft agl over 63 seconds and met the stabilisation-gate criteria, earning a score on the gates.
During the threshold and flare phase the aircraft maintained a good threshold speed of 134 kt, with a good threshold height, on a runway 3,284 m long. Ambient temperature was 35 °C, wind was 3 kt from 1°, comprising a 3 kt crosswind and a 1 kt headwind.
Touchdown occurred 295 m down the runway at a speed of 130 kt and a vertical rate of -188 fpm, both rated good, though the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 4.4 m from the centreline.
To refine the already strong performance reflected by the 94.2 % score, focus on reducing the lateral deviation at touchdown to keep the aircraft within a tighter centreline envelope while preserving the current stable approach and speed management.
