Improve the pattern base leg
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,290 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 500 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 22 at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport. The Cessna Skyhawk took off with a takeoff distance of 346 meters, which accounted for 11% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 68 knots, and the aircraft was able to lift off smoothly.
As the aircraft entered the local airspace, it was met with favorable weather conditions. The temperature was a comfortable 28 degrees Celsius, and the wind was blowing at a gentle 3 knots from a direction of 220 degrees. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and a slight headwind, which was beneficial for the flight.
The pilot then initiated a left-hand pattern entry from runway 22, navigating the aircraft through a series of turns and legs. The pattern entry was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 20 seconds, demonstrating the pilot's skill and precision. The subsequent left-hand pattern crosswind was also executed smoothly, taking 25 seconds to complete.
As the aircraft continued through the pattern, it entered the downwind turn, which required a 45-degree angle to the runway. The distance covered during this turn was 1 nautical mile, and the aircraft maintained a steady heading of 102.5 degrees. The downwind leg itself was 2 nautical miles long and took 81 seconds to complete.
The pilot then initiated the base leg turn, which required another 45-degree angle to the runway. The distance covered during this turn was 1 nautical mile, and the aircraft maintained a steady heading of 34.4 degrees. The base leg itself was less than 1 nautical mile long and took 30 seconds to complete.
The final turn was initiated, and the aircraft began its final approach to runway 22. The approach was made from the north-east, with a heading of 224.0 degrees, and the aircraft was at an altitude of 417 feet above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway.
The landing was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down 54 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 36 knots, which was slightly below the target speed of 56 knots. However, the touchdown rate was excellent at -97 feet per minute (fpm), and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The total landing distance was 602 meters, which accounted for 18% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft came to a stop smoothly. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight took 5 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 2 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna Skyhawk successfully landed at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport, achieving a high score of 97.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 224.0° at 1 nautical mile and 417 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 22, which has a length of 3,290 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 56 knots. This indicates that the pilot maintained control and managed the aircraft's speed effectively during the approach. The touchdown point was 54 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation but still within acceptable limits.
The touchdown speed of 36 knots was within the desired range, and the touchdown rate of -97 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's skill and attention to detail during the approach.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 220°. The crosswind was negligible, and the headwind was 3 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach. The total landing distance of 602 meters was only 18% of the runway length, indicating a short and efficient landing.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, showing that the pilot maintained control and alignment of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and skill, and the high score reflects the pilot's expertise and attention to detail.
