Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,244 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,244 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 362 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question commenced with a departure roll from runway 23 at the Lelystad Airport, where the DA40-NG aircraft achieved a liftoff speed of 69 kt after covering a distance of 70 m, equivalent to 6 percent of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 20 °C, with a gentle wind of 3 kt blowing from a direction of 228 °, resulting in no significant crosswind but a minor headwind component.
Following liftoff, the aircraft initiated a left-hand pattern entry from runway 23, successfully completing the maneuver in under 1 nm of distance within 19 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was also executed in less than 1 nm of distance but took 29 seconds to complete. The aircraft then proceeded to execute a series of turns and legs that formed the standard traffic pattern.
The downwind turn took approximately 1 nm, with the aircraft maintaining a 45-degree angle to the runway. This was followed by the downwind leg, which covered a distance of 2 nm and lasted 77 seconds. The base leg turn and downwind legs were next executed, after which the aircraft turned onto the base leg, covering a distance of less than 1 nm in 26 seconds. The final turn took the aircraft onto the final approach to the runway, with a heading of 227.0 ° and an altitude of 254 ft mean sea level.
A final approach was conducted to runway 23 from a northeasterly direction. The aircraft touched down after covering a distance of 361 m, which is well within the runway length of 1,244 m. The touchdown speed of 56 kt was in line with expectations, and the touchdown rate was also satisfactory, registering a value of -42 fpm. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 m from the centerline.
Upon examination, it was determined that the total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 766 m, which accounts for 62 percent of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was considered excellent, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the designated parking area in under 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nm. The total flight distance reached by the DA40-NG was 6 nm, and the flight consumed 24 kg of fuel in the process, resulting in a total flying time of 5 min.
The DA40-NG landed safely on runway 23 at EHLE Lelystad Airport with a high score of 97.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the northeast direction, aligning at a heading of 227.0°. It was at a distance of 1 nautical mile (nm) from the runway and 254 feet (ft) above ground level (agl) when making its final approach.
Upon touching down on the runway, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 75 knots (kt), but this did not affect the overall outcome of the landing. The touchdown distance of 361 meters was within acceptable limits, demonstrating good control of the aircraft during the landing process. The touchdown speed of 56 kt was also within the desired range.
The aircraft's descent rate during touchdown was perfect at -42 feet per minute (fpm), showing precise control and minimal impact upon landing. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.1 meters, which may require attention to ensure accurate landings in the future.
The local weather conditions during the landing were conducive to a safe and smooth approach. The temperature was at a comfortable 20°C, and the wind speed was a minor 3 kt with a direction of 228°. This resulted in no crosswind or headwind challenges, making the approach even more straightforward.
In terms of overall landing distance, the aircraft traveled 766 meters down the runway, which corresponded to 62% of the available runway length. This is relatively short and indicates that the DA40-NG performed well during the landing process.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was very good, showcasing the pilot's skills in smoothly bringing the aircraft to a stop without any deviations from the runway centerline. Overall, this landing demonstrates a high level of flying proficiency and adherence to safe landing practices.
