Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,346 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,346 m of the 3,800 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 703 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F taxied from the parking area to runway 23L at NZAA Auckland International Airport in 7 minutes, covering 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 23L, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 193 kt and departed after using 2,133 m of runway, which represented 58 % of the available length; local weather was 17 °C with a wind of 9 kt from 239°, including a 2 kt cross-wind and an 8 kt head-wind.
The initial climb began 1 mile south-west of NZAA, climbing from 964 ft asl to 29,972 ft asl, an increase of 29,008 ft achieved in 18 minutes while covering 113 nm.
The first cruise segment commenced 28 nm south-west of Rawene and lasted 166 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 1,278 nm at level altitude.
A subsequent climb started at latitude -20.2384375, longitude 156.5688086, rising from 30,001 ft asl to 32,003 ft asl, a gain of 2,003 ft in 3 minutes over 25 nm.
The following cruise began at latitude -19.8929581, longitude 156.279194 and continued for 158 minutes, covering 1,255 nm.
The next climb was initiated 7 nm north of AYTB Tabubil Airport, climbing from 32,005 ft asl to 33,931 ft asl, an increase of 1,926 ft in 2 minutes while traversing 13 nm.
The subsequent cruise segment started 8 nm south-west of AYIN Busilmin Airstrip and lasted 215 minutes, during which 1,790 nm were flown.
A further climb began 5 nm south of RPUB Loakan Airport, ascending from 34,463 ft asl to 35,965 ft asl, a gain of 1,502 ft in 2 minutes and covering 12 nm.
The next cruise phase was overhead Sablan, lasting 138 minutes and encompassing 1,145 nm.
Descent commenced 26 nm north-east of Shaxi, descending from 35,992 ft asl to 2,635 ft asl, a loss of 33,357 ft in 23 minutes while covering 120 nm.
The final approach to runway 03L at ZUCK Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport was flown from the south on a heading of 17.0°, intercepting the final approach fix at 4 nm and 1,286 ft agl.
Landing on runway 03L, which is 3,800 m long, was achieved with a threshold speed of 147 kt; touchdown occurred 286 m beyond the touchdown zone at 141 kt and a descent rate of minus 190 fpm, with alignment described as very good. Local conditions were 28 °C, wind 2 kt from 62°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt head-wind. The total landing distance was 2,265 m, representing 60 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was offset by 10.1 m from the centreline.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 5,763 nm, lasted 735 minutes, and consumed 107,214 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777F approached runway 03L at ZUCK Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport from the south on a heading of 17.0° at 4 nm and 1,286 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At the threshold the runway length was 3,800 m and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was good at 147 kt.
Touchdown occurred 286 m beyond the touchdown zone with a touchdown speed of 141 kt, which was good, and a touchdown rate of minus 190 fpm, also good. Runway touchdown alignment was very good. Local weather was temperature 28 °C, wind 2 kt from 62°, crosswind 1 kt and headwind 1 kt.
The total landing distance was 2,265 m, representing 60 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.1 m from the centreline.
The overall score of 90.3 % reflects a solid performance; refining the rollout to keep the aircraft closer to the centreline will tighten the final alignment. Additionally, aiming to touch down nearer the designated zone will reduce the 286 m overshoot and further optimise runway usage.
