Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,224 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,224 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 636 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Reichelsheim Airfield (EDFB), the Extra 330 aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 18, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 75 kt in a distance of 285 meters, which accounted for 23% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 24 °C, with a wind speed of 12 kt blowing from 192 °. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 kt and a headwind of 11 kt, which had a minimal impact on the takeoff performance.
As the aircraft entered the traffic pattern, it proceeded to complete a left-hand pattern, with the downwind turn covering a distance of 2 nm. The subsequent base leg turn was executed at an angle of 37.4 ° to the runway, while the final approach was made from the north, heading 221.0 ° at 1 nm and 467 ft above ground level. The landing was completed on runway 18, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 69 kt and a rate of -156 fpm. Although the touchdown point was located beyond 50% of the available runway, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The total landing distance of 1,039 m accounted for 85% of the runway length, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The flight, which covered a total distance of 7 nm, utilized 3 kg of fuel and lasted for 5 minutes. The aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with the landing speed and rate being within acceptable limits. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 94 kt, indicating that the pilot may have been able to achieve a more optimal approach speed. Overall, the flight demonstrated a good understanding of the aircraft's performance characteristics and the ability to execute a safe and controlled landing.
The final approach to runway 18 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield from the north, heading 221.0° at 1 nm and 467 ft agl, was executed with good quality, characterized by a stable and controlled descent. The aircraft maintained a steady rate of descent throughout the approach, ultimately resulting in a good threshold height.
However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 94 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal approach speed. Despite this, the touchdown point was very long, utilizing more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown speed of 69 kt was good, and the touchdown rate of -156 fpm was also satisfactory. Notably, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and precision during the landing phase.
The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 24 °C and wind at 13 kt from 192°, contributed to a relatively calm environment. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 kt, while the headwind component was 12 kt, which likely influenced the aircraft's ground speed and approach speed. The total landing distance of 1,039 m, representing 85% of the runway length, was acceptable. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled transition from the landing phase to the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was scored 80.3%, reflecting a good performance with some areas for improvement.
