Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,617 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 345 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 4.14 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Vision Jet, then departed from runway 18 at KTVL Lake Tahoe Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,749 feet, which was 48% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 103 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 82°F and a wind speed of 12 knots from 180°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead KTVL Lake Tahoe Airport, and climbed from 7,286 feet above sea level to 16,359 feet above sea level, an increase of 9,072 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 17 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles southwest of Sunnyside-Tahoe City and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, starting 10 miles west of Sunnyside-Tahoe City, and climbed from 16,349 feet above sea level to 18,177 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,829 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 12 miles northeast of Foresthill and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 4 miles northeast of Foresthill and descended from 18,372 feet above sea level to 1,674 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,698 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 43 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 17L at KSMF Sacramento International Airport was from the north, heading 180.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,626 feet above ground level.
However, the aircraft went around at 644 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 17L at KSMF Sacramento International Airport was characterized by a runway length of 8,617 feet. The threshold height at 82 feet above ground level was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was excessively high at 119 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 323 feet, but the touchdown speed at 116 knots was excessively fast, and the touchdown rate was very heavy at -2,593 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was excessively misaligned by 501 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 84°F and a wind speed of 16 knots from 170°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 16 knots. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 89 nautical miles, taking 30 minutes, and the aircraft used 200 pounds of fuel.
The Vision Jet aircraft has successfully landed on runway 17L at KSMF Sacramento International Airport, but the landing was not without its issues. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,626 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon further analysis, it appears that the aircraft had a significant problem with its final approach. The threshold height at 82 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was not properly configured for landing. This could have been due to a variety of factors, including incorrect flap settings or an incorrect approach path.
Additionally, the threshold speed was excessively high at 119 knots, which is above the recommended landing speed for the Vision Jet. This could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and could have made it more difficult to control during the landing. The touchdown speed of 116 knots was also excessively fast, which could have resulted in a heavy touchdown rate.
The touchdown distance of 323 feet was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down quickly and smoothly after touchdown. However, the touchdown rate of -2,593 feet per minute (fpm) was very heavy, which could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and could have made it more difficult to control during the landing.
Another issue with the landing was the runway touchdown position, which was excessively misaligned by 501 feet from the centreline. This could have made it more difficult to control the aircraft during the landing and could have resulted in a longer landing roll.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 84°F and a wind of 16 knots at 170°. The crosswind was minimal at 3 knots, and the headwind was 16 knots, which would have helped to slow down the aircraft during the landing.
Overall, while the Vision Jet was able to land safely, the landing was not without its issues, and the pilot could have taken steps to improve the landing by adjusting the approach path, flap settings, and touchdown speed.
