Track the centreline
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 3.8° off, against a 1° limit and wings 17° of bank, against a 10° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 566 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F taxied to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport and commenced the departure roll. The aircraft lifted off after a takeoff run of 1,811 m, representing 55 % of the runway length, at a speed of 142 kt. Ambient conditions were 35 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 001°, a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
During the en-route climb the aircraft departed the vicinity of NZAA, climbing from 961 ft asl to 1,403 ft asl, an altitude gain of 441 ft achieved in 1 minute while covering 2 nm.
Level cruise began 2 mi south of Wiri and continued for 4 minutes, during which the flight covered 13 nm at the assigned cruise altitude.
The final approach to runway 05R at NZAA commenced with a descent from 1,365 ft agl to 62 ft agl in 92 seconds, and the aircraft met the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing was executed on runway 05R, whose total length is 3,284 m. The threshold height was satisfactory and the threshold speed was recorded as 139 kt. Touchdown occurred 147 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 128 kt, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 339 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 8.7 m from the centreline. Local weather at landing was 20 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 225°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt tail-wind component. The total landing distance measured 1,019 m, equal to 31 % of the runway, and the rollout was slightly misaligned by 14.4 m from the centreline.
Runway rollout continued briefly before the aircraft taxied to the parking area; the taxi-in required less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 21 nm, required approximately 7 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 1,450 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777F commenced its final approach to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport with a descent from 1,365 ft agl to 62 ft agl over 92 seconds. At the 1,000 ft gate the approach was assessed as unstable, being off the centreline, and the aircraft was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft presented a good threshold height and a good threshold speed of 139 kt. The flare was executed with the aircraft crossing the threshold at the appropriate speed.
Touchdown occurred with a speed of 128 kt, which was rated good, and a firm vertical rate of minus 339 fpm. The touchdown point was 147 m beyond the designated touchdown zone and the touchdown position was misaligned by 8.7 m from the centreline.
Rollout continued with the aircraft travelling a total landing distance of 1,019 m, representing 31 % of the 3,284 m runway, and the rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.4 m from the centreline.
Improving centreline tracking on final approach and at touchdown will reduce the lateral deviations observed, and adjusting the touchdown point to fall within the touchdown zone will further optimise runway usage.
