Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 338 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Commander 114 taxied from the parking area to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
The aircraft commenced its departure roll on runway 23, using 380 m (20 % of the runway) before liftoff at 79 kt. Local weather reported temperature 16 °C, wind 2 kt from 270°, with a 1 kt crosswind and 2 kt headwind.
After departure, the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern from runway 23, flying a distance of less than 1 nm in 23 seconds.
The crosswind leg of the left-hand pattern covered less than 1 nm in 24 seconds.
The downwind turn was executed over a distance of 2 nm with a 45-degree angle to the runway measured at 65.9°.
The downwind leg extended 2 nm and was completed in 62 seconds.
The base turn spanned 2 nm with a 45-degree angle to the runway of 42.7°.
The base leg itself was less than 1 nm and lasted 34 seconds.
The final turn covered less than 1 nm in 21 seconds.
During final approach to runway 23, the aircraft descended from 585 ft AGL to 37 ft AGL in 66 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gates.
Touchdown occurred on runway 23, whose length is 1,866 m, with a touchdown distance of 336 m and a touchdown speed of 54 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was minus 133 fpm, the runway alignment was perfect, and the threshold speed was recorded at 62 kt. Local weather at landing reported temperature 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 269°, with a 1 kt crosswind and 2 kt headwind. Total landing distance was 475 m, representing 25 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration phase.
The flight covered a total distance of 9 nm, required 6 minutes, and consumed 3 kg of fuel.
The aircraft commander conducted the final approach to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport, descending from 585 ft agl to 37 ft agl in 66 seconds and receiving a score on the stabilisation gates. Local weather was 15 °C with wind 2 kt from 269°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind.
At threshold the height was described as good and the threshold speed was 62 kt, noted as well below the target with a reminder to take care not to stall.
Touchdown occurred 336 m down the runway at a speed of 54 kt, with a smooth vertical rate of minus 133 fpm and perfect runway touchdown alignment.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 475 m, representing 25 % of the 1 866 m runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect.
Maintain threshold speed at or above the target to avoid approaching stall margins, adjusting power or pitch as required during the final segment, and continue to preserve the excellent alignment and smooth rate that contributed to the high overall score.
