Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,290 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 308 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 04 at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport. The Cessna Skyhawk aircraft accelerated down the runway, covering a distance of 110 meters, which is just 3% of the runway's total length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 44 knots, marking the start of the flight.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees. The crosswind and tailwind components were both minimal, at 1 knot each. The pilot then entered a right-hand pattern, navigating the aircraft around the airport in a circular path. The entry into the pattern was smooth, with the aircraft covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 71 seconds.
As the aircraft continued its right-hand pattern, it encountered a crosswind from the runway 04 direction. The pilot expertly navigated the aircraft, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 18 seconds. The pattern then progressed to the downwind turn, where the aircraft turned at an angle of 84.7 degrees to the runway. This was followed by the downwind leg, which covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 88 seconds.
The pilot then initiated the base leg turn, turning the aircraft at an angle of 58.0 degrees to the runway. The base leg itself was short, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 29 seconds. The final turn was then executed, bringing the aircraft onto the final approach to runway 04. The aircraft was heading southwest, at an altitude of 122 feet above ground level, and was aligned with the runway.
The final approach was smooth, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 44 knots. The touchdown distance was good, at 306 meters, and the touchdown rate was perfect, at -46 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect, indicating a well-executed landing. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees.
The flight was completed with a total distance of 5 nautical miles, taking a total of 5 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 2 kilograms of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was a success, with the pilot executing a smooth and controlled landing on runway 04 at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport.
The Cessna Skyhawk successfully landed at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport, showcasing exceptional piloting skills. The aircraft's final approach to runway 04 from the southwest, heading 45.0°, demonstrated a high level of precision and control. At an altitude of 0 nm and 122 ft above ground level (agl), the pilot expertly guided the aircraft towards the runway, ensuring a smooth and stable descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 58 kt, which is well within the acceptable threshold speed range. The touchdown distance of 306 m was also satisfactory, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent and landing. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 44 kt was within the recommended range, signifying a safe and controlled landing.
One of the most impressive aspects of this landing was the touchdown rate, which was a perfect -46 fpm. This indicates that the pilot had expertly managed the aircraft's descent, ensuring a smooth and controlled touchdown. Additionally, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's exceptional skills in navigating the aircraft towards the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind speed of 1 kt at 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 kt each, which further contributed to the smooth and controlled nature of the landing. Overall, this landing was a testament to the pilot's expertise and the Cessna Skyhawk's capabilities, with a score of 99.2% indicating an almost flawless execution of the landing procedure.
