Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,914 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,914 ft of the 10,009 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,723 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight departed from Eppley Airfield, KOMA, on runway 32L, with a takeoff distance of 6,420 feet, utilizing 68% of the available runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 162 knots, with a local temperature of 89°F and a gentle headwind of 2 knots. Following a smooth departure, the aircraft began its enroute climb, ascending from 1,927 feet above sea level to 34,997 feet, an increase of 33,070 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 148 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started approximately 3 miles northeast of MU38 Bogard-Cowgill Airport in Missouri. The cruise phase lasted 58 minutes, covering a distance of 459 nautical miles. The aircraft then began a series of descents and level cruises, navigating through various points in Kentucky and Tennessee. Notably, the final descent from 30,347 feet to 2,139 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,208 feet in 23 minutes, covered a distance of 123 nautical miles. The aircraft then lined up for a final approach to runway 18C at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, KCLT, from the north.
The landing was executed on runway 18C, with a total landing distance of 6,657 feet, utilizing 67% of the available runway. The touchdown point was 366 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 140 knots, slightly above the target. The touchdown rate was smooth at -148 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following a successful landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 4 minutes to cover a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 811 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 2 hours and 5 minutes, and a fuel consumption of 11,962 pounds.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 18C at KCLT Charlotte Douglas International Airport with a score of 99.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 179.0° at 4 nm and 1,401 ft above ground level. The final approach was characterized by good quality, with a smooth descent and a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, reaching 146 kt.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, it touched down 366 ft beyond the touchdown zone, with a speed of 140 kt, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was smooth, at -148 fpm, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 93 °F and a headwind of 3 kt, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing.
The total landing distance was 6,657 ft, which accounted for 67% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed well, with the aircraft touching down smoothly and maintaining its alignment throughout the rollout.
