Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,234 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,234 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 141 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 24 at 4N1 Greenwood Lake. The aircraft, a Carenado CT210N, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 69 kt, covering a distance of 415 m, which was 39% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C and a wind speed of 2 kt from a direction of 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile south of West Milford, New Jersey. The climb was steep, with an increase in altitude of 665 ft over a distance of 1 nm in just 1 minute. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, flying at a steady altitude of 2,211 ft asl for 6 minutes while covering a distance of 7 nm.
The enroute cruise phase was followed by a descent, which began 3 miles north east of Lake Telemark, New Jersey. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,708 ft asl to 1,963 ft asl over a distance of 3 nm in 2 minutes, resulting in a decrease in altitude of 744 ft. The aircraft then leveled off again and entered another cruise phase, flying at a steady altitude of 1,963 ft asl for 6 minutes while covering a distance of 9 nm.
The final descent phase began overhead Little Falls, New Jersey, and was a steep one, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 990 ft asl to 264 ft asl over a distance of 3 nm in 2 minutes, resulting in a decrease in altitude of 727 ft. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 22 at KCDW Essex County Airport, flying from the north east at a heading of 208.0°.
The landing was smooth, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 78 kt and a distance of 139 m, which was 31% of the runway length. The touchdown rate was firm at -370 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 m from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a wind speed of 2 kt from a direction of 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 1 minute to cover a distance of less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 26 nm, and the flight duration was 20 minutes. The aircraft used 8 kg of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was a smooth and efficient one, with the aircraft performing well in a variety of conditions.
The Carenado CT210N aircraft successfully landed on runway 22 at KCDW Essex County Airport, achieving a score of 96.9%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 208.0° at 0 nm and 93 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady descent, ultimately touching down on the runway with a speed of 78 kt, which was slightly below the target threshold speed of 79 kt.
The touchdown distance of 139 m was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The touchdown rate of -370 fpm was firm, suggesting a stable and predictable descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 m from the centreline, which may require some adjustments in the approach or landing technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C, with a wind speed of 2 kt at 270°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 kt and a headwind of 1 kt, which may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing. Despite these conditions, the pilot successfully managed the aircraft, ensuring a safe and controlled touchdown.
The total landing distance of 379 m was 31% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to maintain a high level of control and precision during the landing, resulting in a smooth and efficient touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase, ensuring a safe and stable exit from the runway.
