MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 422 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a CRJ900, then departed from runway 21R at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (KDTW). The takeoff distance was 1,303 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 189 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead KDTW and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,691 feet above sea level to 34,128 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,436 feet in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 6 miles southeast of Dowling, Michigan, and lasted for 13 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 288 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 1 mile north of Hills, Iowa, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,072 feet above sea level to 2,209 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,863 feet in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 99 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 13 at Des Moines International Airport (KDSM) was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 132.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 13, which had a length of 2,738 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed at 143 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 424 meters, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was also good. The touchdown rate was firm at -357 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.3 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 90 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,291 meters, which was 47% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline by 9.4 meters. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 475 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 45 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 2,534 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at Des Moines International Airport (KDSM) with a score of 95.8%. The final approach was initiated from the northwest, heading 132.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on runway 13, which has a length of 2,738 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 143 knots. Despite this, the touchdown distance was good at 424 meters, and the touchdown speed of 133 knots was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -357 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 4.3 meters, which may require some adjustments to the aircraft's alignment during future approaches. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were mild, with a temperature of 18°C and a light wind of 4 knots at 90°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,291 meters was within 47% of the runway length, indicating a controlled and efficient landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.4 meters, which may require some adjustments to the aircraft's alignment during future landings. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft scored well on its approach and touchdown.
