MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,434 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 294 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 04R at EFHK Helsinki Vantaa Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,489 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of -2°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 359°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was also 1 knot. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile north east of EFHK Helsinki Vantaa Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,162 feet above sea level to 36,598 feet above sea level in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 116 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 17 miles south west of Houtskaer, Finland, and lasted for 32 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 774 nautical miles. The descent from the cruise altitude began 1 mile east of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, England, and took 13 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 124 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from 36,669 feet above sea level to 3,024 feet above sea level.
The enroute level cruise was restarted 1 mile south east of Cuddington, England, and lasted for 4 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 05L at EGCC Manchester Airport was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading at 51.0° at an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 216 feet above ground level. The landing was eventually made on runway 05L at EGCC Manchester Airport, with the runway length being 2,434 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 294 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 133 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -229 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.9 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 50°. The crosswind component was 0 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,240 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.5 meters.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,039 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 81 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 6,786 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 05L at Manchester Airport (EGCC) with a score of 97.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 51.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 138 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 133 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to a slightly higher touchdown rate of -229 feet per minute (fpm). The touchdown distance of 294 meters was considered good, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 50°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a headwind of 6 knots, which was favorable for the landing. The runway length of 2,434 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,240 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.5 meters. This deviation was relatively minor and did not pose a significant risk to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and adherence to standard operating procedures.
