Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 340 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a FFX P180, then departed from runway 33 at KASE Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (Sardy Field), with a takeoff distance of 1,092 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 116 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -12°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 220°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead KASE Aspen-Pitkin County Airport. The climb took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 21 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 8,606 feet above sea level to 26,757 feet above sea level, an increase of 18,152 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 4 miles south east of KEGE Eagle County Regional Airport, lasting 7 minutes and covering 51 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 3 miles north east of 77CO UCH-MHS Memorial North Helipad, and took 22 minutes to descend from 26,652 feet above sea level to 5,821 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,831 feet. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 41 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 12L at KBJC Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport was made from the north west, with a heading of 124.0° at an altitude of 152 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 12L was successful, with a touchdown distance of 339 meters, which was 33% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 102 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -342 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -7°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 287°.
The total landing distance was 900 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 116 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 46 minutes, during which the aircraft used 269 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft, identified as FFX P180 03 01, successfully landed at KBJC Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport on runway 12L. The final approach was initiated from the northwest, heading 124.0° at an altitude of 152 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency in its landing, achieving a score of 97.6%.
The landing was executed with precision, with a good threshold height and speed of 111 knots. The touchdown distance of 339 meters was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 102 knots was also satisfactory, and the touchdown rate of -342 feet per minute was firm but not excessive.
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft landing 3.6 meters off-centerline. This minor misalignment may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error, but it did not appear to have a significant impact on the overall landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of -7°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 287°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and the tailwind component was 3 knots. These conditions were favorable for the landing, and the aircraft's performance was not significantly affected by the wind.
The total landing distance of 900 meters was 33% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This indicates that the aircraft was able to land and stop within a reasonable distance, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. Overall, the landing was a success, and the aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency in its landing performance.
