Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,550 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,550 m of the 2,708 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 537 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport, a process that took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 06R, with a takeoff distance of 1,612 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 30°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 9°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was also 1 knot. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile east of the airport, where the aircraft ascended from 1,028 feet above sea level to 37,052 feet above sea level, a vertical increase of 36,024 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 124 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 74 miles south east of Llafranc, Spain, and lasted for 21 minutes, covering a distance of 163 nautical miles. The descent phase began 1 mile north of Robion, France, where the aircraft descended from 36,899 feet above sea level to 2,109 feet above sea level, a vertical decrease of 34,789 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 107 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35R at LFLL Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 355.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,297 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on runway 35R, which had a length of 2,708 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 142 knots.
The touchdown point was 122 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 134 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -284 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 24°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 340°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,470 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft was taxiing to the parking area from the runway in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 404 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 83 minutes and a fuel consumption of 2,936 kilograms.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at LFLL Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, achieving a score of 98.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 355.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,297 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed on runway 35R, which has a length of 2,708 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was well above the target speed of 142 knots. However, the touchdown point was 122 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly faster than desired, but the touchdown rate of -284 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and a gentle wind of 7 knots from 340°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The total landing distance of 1,470 meters was 54% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision, and the aircraft came to a stop in a safe and controlled manner.
