Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 1.1° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 238 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F departed from runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport, using a take-off roll of 2,187 m which represented 67 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 178 kt. Ambient conditions were 34 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, including a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced overhead the departure airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,015 ft asl to 1,488 ft asl, a gain of 474 ft achieved in 1 minute while covering 4 nm.
Cruise began 2 miles south of Wiri and continued for 4 minutes, during which the flight covered 11 nm at level flight.
During final approach the aircraft descended from 1,250 ft agl to 50 ft agl in 98 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing was executed on runway 05R, whose length is 3,284 m and which provided a good threshold height. The threshold speed was recorded at 134 kt, touchdown occurred 240 m down the runway at 129 kt, and the touchdown rate was firm at minus 377 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather remained 34 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, cross-wind 3 kt and head-wind 1 kt.
In total the flight covered 20 nm, took 7 minutes, and consumed 1,141 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate, with the aircraft off the centreline. The descent profile was from 1,250 ft agl to 50 ft agl in 98 seconds, and the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the height was reported as good and the threshold speed was good at 134 kt. The aircraft continued the flare and touchdown sequence on the 3,284 m runway without further deviation.
Touchdown occurred 240 m down the runway, a distance described as good, with a touchdown speed of 129 kt also rated good. The vertical rate was firm at minus 377 fpm and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 34 °C, wind 3 kt from 1°, with a 3 kt crosswind component and a 1 kt headwind component.
To raise the overall score, focus on maintaining the centreline during the final approach to achieve a stabilised approach at the 1,000 ft gate. Refining lateral tracking will help convert the current unstable assessment into a stable one while preserving the strong performance already demonstrated.
