Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 1.0° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 385 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F departed from runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport, using a take-off distance of 1,398 m (43 % of the runway). Liftoff was achieved at 160 kt. Ambient conditions were 18 °C with a wind of 4 kt from 345°, providing a 4 kt cross-wind component and no head-wind.
Climb commenced overhead the airport, rising from 1,007 ft asl to 1,633 ft asl, an increase of 626 ft in 1 minute while covering 3 nm.
Cruise began 2 miles south-east of NZAA and continued for 4 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 11 nm at level flight.
Descent for the final approach reduced altitude from 1,442 ft agl to 34 ft agl in 96 seconds.
The final approach to runway 05R was executed with a descent profile as described, and the aircraft scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing was made on runway 05R, whose length is 3,284 m. The threshold speed was slightly below the target at 124 kt. Touchdown occurred 386 m down the runway at 118 kt with a smooth touchdown rate of minus 125 fpm and very good alignment. Local weather at landing was 17 °C with a wind of 4 kt from 344°, a 4 kt cross-wind and no head-wind. Total landing distance was 1,020 m (31 % of the runway).
Rollout proceeded with a slight lateral deviation of 8.5 m from the centreline.
In total the flight covered 20 nm, took 7 minutes, and consumed 34,224 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate, with the aircraft off the centreline. The descent proceeded from 1,442 ft agl to 34 ft agl in 96 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates. Local weather was 17 °C with wind 4 kt from 344°, a 4 kt cross-wind component and no head-wind.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly below target at 124 kt. The flare was executed in line with the approach parameters.
Touchdown occurred 386 m down the runway at a speed of 118 kt, with a smooth vertical rate of minus 125 fpm and very good runway-touchdown alignment. The total landing distance was 1,020 m, representing 31 % of the 3,284 m runway.
During rollout the aircraft was slightly misaligned, deviating 8.5 m from the centreline.
Maintain a precise centreline on final approach to eliminate the instability noted at the 1,000 ft gate, and refine rollout technique to keep alignment within a tighter tolerance.
