Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,030 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 506 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EGNT Newcastle Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 25, with a takeoff distance of 948 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 29 knots coming from a direction of 259 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 28 knots. The aircraft climbed from 1,302 feet above sea level to 7,535 feet above sea level, an increase of 6,233 feet, in just 4 minutes and covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The enroute climb continued, with the aircraft reaching a cruising altitude of 34,925 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,377 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 83 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 23 minutes and covering 141 nautical miles, before beginning its descent towards EGTE Exeter International Airport.
The descent started overhead Winchester, with the aircraft descending from 35,212 feet above sea level to 3,537 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,674 feet, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 66 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles, before beginning its final descent.
The final approach to runway 26 at EGTE Exeter International Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 256.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,530 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down 77 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 113 knots. The touchdown rate was hard, at -464 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots coming from a direction of 280 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The total landing distance was 1,366 meters, which was 67% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 329 nautical miles, taking a total of 65 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,630 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at Exeter International Airport (EGTE) on runway 26, achieving a score of 91.5%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 256.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,530 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed of 125 knots was also satisfactory.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 77 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 113 knots, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard, at -464 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was also found to be misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the intended path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 280°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The total landing distance of 1,366 meters was 67% of the available runway length, which is 2,030 meters. During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was found to be slightly misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centerline, indicating a minor deviation from the intended path.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a satisfactory score of 91.5%. However, there were some minor deviations from the intended path, including the touchdown position and rollout alignment, which may require attention to improve future landings.
