Monitor your taxi speed
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,008 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 186 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, then departed from runway 21 at DIAP Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The takeoff distance was 849 meters, which accounted for 28% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 179°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,065 feet above sea level to 32,223 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,159 feet in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 14 minutes and covered a distance of 96 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 7 miles northeast of Bonoua, Ivory Coast. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 8 miles northeast of Aboso, Ghana. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 32,245 feet above sea level to 15,949 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,296 feet in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 91 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 3 miles northwest of Gbawe, Ghana. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 4 miles northwest of Medina Estates, Ghana. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 15,569 feet above sea level to 1,475 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,094 feet in 11 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21 at DGAA Kotoka International Airport was made from the north, with a heading of 202.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 21 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 187 meters, which was 30% of the runway length. The threshold speed was good at 132 knots, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 131 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -364 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.9 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25°C, with a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 199°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 13 knots. The total landing distance was 892 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 235 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 58 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,464 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner successfully landed at Kotoka International Airport's runway 21, achieving a score of 93.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 202.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 13 knots at 199°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 132 knots, which was within the acceptable threshold speed. However, the touchdown speed of 131 knots was slightly faster than desired, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing speed. The touchdown distance of 187 meters was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -364 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.9 meters, which may require some adjustments to the pilot's approach and landing technique. Despite this minor deviation, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll.
The total landing distance of 892 meters was 30% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot executed a smooth and controlled landing, taking into account the aircraft's performance and the runway's characteristics. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in executing a safe and efficient landing.
