MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,771 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 435 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 34R at YSSY Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,777 meters, which was 82% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 163 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 21 knots at 240 degrees. The crosswind was 20 knots, while the tailwind was 6 knots. After departing from Sydney, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead Mascot in the State of New South Wales, Australia. The climb took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 140 nautical miles, with the aircraft rising from 1,103 feet above sea level to 35,542 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,439 feet.
The enroute level cruise started 111 miles south east of FC03 Sydney Static Carrier - CVN78 in the State of New South Wales, Australia, and lasted for 47 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 786 nautical miles. The cruise was followed by an enroute descent, which began 77 miles north west of T004 Quintin Lodge Airstrip in Southland, New Zealand. The descent took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 125 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing its altitude from 34,692 feet above sea level to 2,546 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,146 feet.
The final approach to runway 23 at NZQN Queenstown International Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 258.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,366 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 23, which had a length of 1,771 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 142 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 437 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 136 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -210 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at Queenstown International Airport were a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at 209 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 9 knots. The total landing distance was 1,249 meters, which was 71% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft took 1 minute to taxi to the parking area, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,060 nautical miles, and the flight took 96 minutes, using 6,200 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Queenstown International Airport (NZQN) with a score of 97.9%. The final approach was conducted from the east, heading 258.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,366 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 23, which has a length of 1,771 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 142 knots, indicating a good approach speed. The touchdown distance of 437 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to a fair touchdown rate of -210 feet per minute (fpm). This rate is not ideal, as it may indicate a slightly hard landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and wind speeds of 13 knots at 209°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,249 meters was 71% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and was able to align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from ideal performance.
