Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,010 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,010 m of the 2,914 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 932 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The journey began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles (nm). The aircraft then departed from runway 35R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,607 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 21 knots at a direction of 19°. The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 18 knots. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 168 knots.
The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile southwest of Casorate Sempione, Italy, and involved a vertical ascent from 1,750 feet above sea level (asl) to 32,418 ft asl, an increase of 30,668 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 96 nm. The enroute level cruise phase started 3 miles southeast of San Bartolomeo, Italy, and lasted for 25 minutes, covering a distance of 178 nm.
The enroute descent phase began 46 miles northeast of Cadaques, Spain, and involved a descent from 33,014 ft asl to 23,117 ft asl, a decrease of 9,897 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 39 nm. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 19 miles southeast of Cadaques, Spain, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nm.
The enroute descent phase continued, with the aircraft descending from 23,139 ft asl to 11,129 ft asl, a decrease of 12,010 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 47 nm. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles southeast of Viladrau, Spain, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nm.
The enroute descent phase continued, with the aircraft descending from 11,142 ft asl to 5,978 ft asl, a decrease of 5,163 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 23 nm. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead LEAV Aeròdrom d'Avinyonet Avinyonet del Penedes, Spain, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nm.
The enroute descent phase continued, with the aircraft descending from 5,983 ft asl to 2,979 ft asl, a decrease of 3,004 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nm. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 4 miles south of Creixell, Spain, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 18 nm.
The final approach to runway 06L at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport was made from the southwest, with a heading of 65.0° at a distance of 4 nm and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on the runway, with a total landing distance of 1,931 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 340°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. The touchdown point was 518 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 130 knots and a touchdown rate of -250
The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, successfully landed at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport on runway 06L. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 65.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level. The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 143 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 518 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -250 feet per minute was considered fair, indicating a moderate rate of descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.7 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the off-center touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 340°. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance of 1,931 meters was 66% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly off-center by 7.7 meters from the centerline. This may have been a result of the initial misalignment during touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor deviations from optimal performance.
