Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,544 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,544 m of the 3,026 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 559 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Düsseldorf Airport, EDDL. This process took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 23L, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,123 meters, which was 47% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 2°C temperature and a wind of 13 knots at 220 degrees. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Düsseldorf Airport and continued for 17 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,151 feet above sea level to 34,652 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,501 feet. This climb covered a distance of 98 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 175 minutes and covered a distance of 314 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 2 miles west of Rinteln Airfield, EDVR. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles south of Wrzesnia, Poland. During this phase, the aircraft descended from 34,498 feet above sea level to 1,665 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,833 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 124 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at Warsaw Chopin Airport, EPWA, was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 152.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,299 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 3,026 meters, with the threshold height at 62 feet above ground level being above the target. The threshold speed was good at 130 knots, while the touchdown speed was 120 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -273 feet per minute.
The touchdown point was 138 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -3°C temperature and a wind of 5 knots at 214 degrees, with a crosswind component of 5 knots and a headwind component of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,458 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 547 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 94 minutes. The aircraft used 3,442 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at EPWA Warsaw Chopin Airport, achieving a score of 91.5%. The final approach to runway 15 was initiated from the north-west, with a heading of 152.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,299 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a speed of 120 kt, which was considered good. However, the touchdown point was 138 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The threshold height at 62 ft agl was above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach.
The threshold speed was reported as good at 130 kt, indicating that the pilot maintained a suitable speed during the final stages of the approach. The touchdown rate of -273 fpm was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher rate of descent than desired.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -3°C and a wind speed of 5 kt from a direction of 214°. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 kt and a headwind of 2 kt, which may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,458 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot successfully managed the aircraft's speed and descent rate to achieve a smooth touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the post-landing phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good touchdown speed and a short landing distance. However, the slight deviation from the intended touchdown zone and the fair touchdown rate suggest that there is room for improvement in the pilot's technique.
