MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,221 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,221 ft of the 11,107 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,976 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 07 at the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (KSBA). The takeoff distance was 1,602 feet, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 128 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 269°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the tailwind component was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Goleta, California. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,052 feet above sea level to 16,934 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,881 feet, in 8 minutes and covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 8 miles southwest of Ventura, California, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 16,934 feet above sea level to 4,931 feet above sea level, a decrease of 12,002 feet, in 7 minutes and covering a distance of 31 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles north of Malibu, California, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 32 nautical miles.
The final descent phase started overhead Bell Gardens, California, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 4,930 feet above sea level to 1,540 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,390 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25R at the Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX), approaching from the east at a heading of 263.0° and at an altitude of 1,408 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 25R was characterized by a touchdown point that was 1,561 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 124 knots, which was excessively fast, while the touchdown rate was fair at -276 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, but the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 50 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°.
The total landing distance was 4,906 feet, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 104 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 43 minutes. The aircraft used 652 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft has successfully landed at KLAX Los Angeles International Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach to runway 25R was initiated from the east, heading 263.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,408 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 1,561 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the target. The touchdown speed of 124 knots was also excessively high, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -276 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, but not ideal.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a gentle headwind of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind was negligible, with a speed of 0 knots. The runway length of 11,107 feet was more than sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 4,906 feet, which accounted for 44% of the runway.
However, there were some issues with the landing performance. The threshold height at 120 feet agl was excessively over target, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to maintain a stable approach. The threshold speed of 135 knots was also excessively high, suggesting that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown.
Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 50 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to the pilot's inability to maintain a stable alignment during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was successful, there are areas for improvement in terms of approach and touchdown performance.
