Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,123 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 432 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 05 at LPMA Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo. The takeoff distance was 1,450 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 22 knots at a direction of 10 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 18 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Machico in Madeira, Portugal. The climb took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 141 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,004 feet above sea level to 33,355 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,351 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 112 miles northeast of LPPS Porto Santo Airport Vila Baleira in Madeira, Portugal. This phase lasted for 42 minutes and covered a distance of 270 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 93 miles southwest of Cascais in the Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal. The descent took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 103 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 33,074 feet above sea level to 1,679 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,395 feet.
The final approach to runway 02 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 23.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level. However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 16 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 02, with the runway length being 3,123 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 158 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 432 meters, but the touchdown speed was fast at 152 knots. The touchdown rate was good at -169 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 15 knots at a direction of 340 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,242 meters, which accounted for 40% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.6 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 531 nautical miles, taking 109 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,557 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 02 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) with a score of 90.1%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 23.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated based on several key parameters.
The threshold height at 73 feet agl was found to be well above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than expected at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed of 157 kt was well above the target, suggesting that the aircraft was traveling at a faster speed than intended at the point of touchdown. This was also observed in the second landing attempt, where the threshold speed was 158 kt, which is still above the target.
The touchdown distance of 432 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down within a reasonable distance from the beginning of the runway. However, the touchdown speed of 152 kt was found to be fast, suggesting that the aircraft may have been traveling at a higher speed than necessary at the point of touchdown. The touchdown rate of -169 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down quickly after touchdown.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C, wind speed of 15 kt at 340°, with a crosswind of 10 kt and a headwind of 11 kt.
The total landing distance of 1,242 meters was 40% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.6 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Airbus A321 aircraft performed well during the landing, with a score of 90.1%. However, there were some areas for improvement, including the threshold speed, touchdown speed, and runway rollout alignment.
